Denture Reline Tips
Joseph J. Massad, D.D.S.

  1. An effective reline requires both the exposure of fresh acrylic surfaces and removal of a uniform amount of intaglio denture base. This may be accomplished by using a Reline Ink. Apply this material to the denture intaglio and 2 to 3 mm of peripheral border. After the inked surface is cut away, a practitioner knows fresh acrylic has been exposed. Any surface not correctly prepared will bond improperly with relining material.
  2. Excess relining material is easily removed and prevented from adhering to denture teeth, facial and lingual surfaces by applying a thick layer of masking agent.
  3. After applying the reline material to the properly prepared denture base, insert the denture in the patient's mouth. Instruct them to close into centric occlusion and then open their mouth. Stabilize the denture with finger pressure while directing the patient into border muscle molding movement.
