Approximately 50 million
people across North America annually report some type of sleep problem
including snoring and the symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Now,
with the Klearway™ appliance, available exclusively in Canada from Space
Maintainers Laboratories Canada Ltd., you can offer the clinically proven
solution. Precisely
Adjustable
Utilizing a laser-welded (not soldered) advancement screw for superior
longevity, Klearway facilitates slow and gradual forward movement of the
mandible. A total of 44 positions available in increments of 0.25 mm (covering
a full 11 mm range) permits the patient to adjust appliance according
to his or her own comfort level under the guidance of the attending dentist.
Custom Fabricated
For Maximum Patient Comfort
Once warmed under hot water for easy insertion, the Klearway's thermoactive
acrylic resin contracts as it cools, providing superior retention and
fit. This significantly decreases soft tissue and tooth discomfort. Full
occlusal coverage of both arches is provided, without encroaching on tongue
space. Lateral and vertical jaw movements are permitted, allowing patients
to yawn, swallow and drink water without dislodging the appliance. Proven Effective
Through Clinical Trials
To date, more than 3,000 patients worldwide have already benefited from
the use of a Klearway appliance. Developed by Alan Lowe, DMD, PhD,
FRCD(c), FACD, Professor and Chair of the Division of Orthodontics at
the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Dentistry, Klearway
is the most thoroughly field tested and researched oral appliance for
the treatment of snoring and OSA available.
Progressive titration
capabilities together with excellent compliance give Klearway the
highest reported treatment success of any oral appliance used for the
treatment of snoring and OSA:
 |
Successfully
treats 80% of mild to moderate OSA patients. |
 |
Successfully
treats 61% of severe OSA patients. |
 |
Increases
airway size in OSA patients particularly at the level of the velopharynx. |
 |
Covert
compliance monitoring shows that Klearway is worn on average
6.8 hours per night. |
 |
Can
be used to reduce vertical jaw posture which is significantly higher
in OSA patients. |
 |
Extensive
multi-centre clinical trial, funded by the Canadian government through
the National Centres of Excellence Program (Inspiraplex), proved the
appliance's superior effectiveness and covert compliance to nasal
CPAP. |
A
Medical/Dental Team Effort
Because of the obvious life-threatening implications of sleep disorders,
it is imperative that treatment commence only after the potential presence
of other associated medical conditions, including sleep apnea, are ascertained.
Prior to treatment with an oral appliance, the patient should be assessed
by an attending physician and/or sleep specialist.
