"The patient reported with pain when chewing on the upper first molar. When testing with the tooth slooth™, the mesial buccal cusp responded positively and a diagnosis of cracked tooth syndrome was made. After the amalgam was removed, a crack was also seen on the pulpal floor below the disto-buccal. Therefore, both buccal cusps were overlayed. Note the one millimetre margin on the buccal and that the distal contact was not broken in the preparation stage photograph. The mesial box and deep pulpal floor provide the resistance form needed for this case.

The final photograph shows a three month postoperative view of the Cristobal + onlay constructed by Aurum Ceramic/Classic. The amalgam in the second molar was replaced with direct resin."

Dr. Ronald Jackson is considered one of the pioneers in the development of clinical technique for esthetic inlays and onlays. He is a published author and lectures frequently worldwide. He has been a featured speaker at annual meetings of all three organizations for esthetic/cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Jackson is a Fellow in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Academy of General Dentistry. He holds visiting faculty appointments to the post-graduate programs in esthetic dentistry at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London in London, England. He also serves as Director of the Posterior Esthetics Program at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Dr. Jackson serves on the editorial boards of three dental publications and is a consultant to a number of dental manufacturers in the areas of new product development and clinical testing of materials.

Dr. Jackson maintains a private practice in Middleburg, Virginia emphasising comprehensive restorative and esthetic dentistry.
