“This patient was a 23 year old graduate of Lehigh University, attending on a football scholarship. After missing the cut for a professional football team, he went job-hunting for a position on Wall Street in New York City. While he hated the appearance of his teeth, and despite consultations with specialists in both fields, he would not consider the route of oral surgery and several years of orthodontics. I offered him the option of a full mouth reconstruction, which he was very happy to pursue.

Note that both deciduous cuspids are retained with no mobility and sufficient root length. Tooth #6 had not erupted at all, while #11 had erupted lingually, showing when he smiled and hurting his tongue. I was able to considerably reduce the size of #11, without endodontics, and sealed it with composite.

The patient exhibited no neuromuscular signs or symptoms. As we did not have to change his bite to accomplish our goals, we were able to proceed directly to the restorations. The Aurum Ceramic/Classic Advanced Esthetic (AE) Team crafted 25 IPS EMPRESS all-ceramic crowns, which were placed over two visits. Very few bite adjustments were required and the patient was shocked at how natural the final result felt. Both he and his family are extremely happy with the final results.”

With a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Anselm College and a master’s in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire, Dr. John Bixby earned his doctor of dental medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1974. Dr. Bixby is committed to continuing education, completing many courses in various aspects of general dentistry and temporomandibular joint dysfunction over the past 30 years and served as the Director of the Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunctions Clinic of the General Dentistry Residency Program at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ for 21 years. He is a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and is also certified in laser dentistry, is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and a Diplomat in the American Society of Forensic Dentists. Dr. Bixby is in private practice, along with his son Dr. Michael Bixby, in Little Silver, NJ where he focuses on Cosmetic and Neuromuscular Dentistry.
