IPS Empress®

"This 26 year old female patient presented with severe erosion of #7 through #10. These teeth had already been endodontically treated. The remaining maxillary teeth had moderate erosion to the lingual enamel as well as numerous amalgam restorations with recurrent decay.

A comprehensive examination determined that the bite was over-closed. Achieving any reasonable esthetics and proper anterior guidance would necessitate opening the bite. The recommendation was made to TENS the patient to determine the ideal neuromuscular vertical dimension. The results indicated the bite should be opened 6 mm. No TM joint dysfunction or symptoms were present. Full mouth reconstruction was recommended to achieve optimal esthetic and functional results. The patient agreed to restore the maxillary arch initially, while supporting the proper mandibular position with a Luxatemp orthotic build-up until she could complete the lower rehabilitation.

Patient's initial situation
with severe erosion.

Smile restored with IPS Empress restorations. Bite opened 6 mm.

Posts and build-ups as well as gingival recontouring with a diode laser were done on the maxillary incisors. The maxillary arch was then prepped for IPS Empress restorations with the 6 mm increase of vertical dimension being divided equally between the upper and lower arches.

Thanks to the beautiful work done by Aurum Ceramic, the patient loves the look of her new smile. She also feels extremely comfortable as well with the increased vertical dimension. In a heart-warming letter from the patient, she states that 'you brought back the old Lynn.' Her self-confidence, even more than her smile, was restored."
