"This case turned
out fantastic! The patient presented to me seeking advice as to
what could be done to close 'the space between my front teeth'.
The patient explained that he would be starting work as a local
television sportscaster and he needed a pleasing esthetic appearance.
He was also concerned about the effect of studio lights on any
dental work in front of the TV camera. After discussing his options,
we decided to restore his maxillary incisors with Empress® veneers.
Shade matching
was a challenge as the patient has some hypocalcification on the
maxillary anterior teeth that he wished to retain. Teeth numbers
12-22 were restored with full coverage veneers which were made
1 1/2 mm longer. The canines were re-contoured to give a more pleasing
smile line and then whitened using in-office power bleaching. The
restorations were bonded into place on a Saturday morning and he
had his television debut the following Saturday. He was really
excited about the results and the restorations were undetectable
on TV.
