"As we enter
into the twenty-first century, one cannot help but wonder what
advances we will see in the field of adhesion dentistry. Looking
back at the relatively brief period of adhesive technology, it
is easy to see that recent advances in adhesion and esthetics have
revolutionized what we can offer to our patients in strength and
appearance. I am excited about the possibilities. I wonder if in
1955, Dr. Buonocore realized what a revolution he was initiating.
This patient
had been bothered by the look of her teeth for years but was not
aware that the teeth could be changed easily and strengthened at
the same time. The old crown and metal post in tooth 10 needed
to be re-treated in addition to replacing old oxidized amalgam
fillings that were esthetically unpleasant. She also expressed
a desire to have straighter and lighter teeth.
The post on tooth
10 was removed and replaced with a bonded Cosmopost™ with Tetric-Ceram® as
the buildup material. IPS Empress® restorations were fabricated for
teeth 3 thru 13 using a T-2 ingot. T-2 is a nice blend between the
more translucent TC-1 ingot and the opaque O-1 ingot. We were able
to give her the straighter, lighter teeth that she had always wanted
with predictability and confidence in our choice of materials."
