In March of 1997, the patient decided that he would like the space
where 16 was extracted over 10 years ago filled in with a restoration.
His timing couldn't have been better! Aurum Ceramic/Classic began
offering Targis/Vectris at the end of February 1997.
As the missing tooth is in the patient's esthetic zone, I chose
to restore the space with a Targis/Vectris bridge.
13 and 14 were
restored with direct composite restorations. 15 and 17 were shaped
as full crown abutments with 1mm supragingival margins. The results,
as you can see, were outstanding and the patient was elated. One
important point to note is that, with what I know today about the
strength of Targis/Vectris, I would probably have chosen to do a
3 unit inlay bridge instead. By removing the amalgam restorations
on 14 and 17 and reshaping the teeth as inlay retainers, you can
achieve a result that is not only highly esthetic but aggressive
tooth reduction is minimized as well!"
