High Strength - Even In Veneers
Fortress™ is a specially reinforced ceramic with twice the strength of normal porcelains, approximating the strength of cast or pressed ceramics. This increased strength is accomplished by initiating crystal formation within the glass matrix of the ceramic powder during the manufacturing process. Leucite crystals with a high thermal expansion coefficient are embedded in a glass matrix with a low thermal expansion coefficient. Compressive stresses at the interface between the leucites and the glass within the porcelain are built up. When cooled after firing, these transform to actually counteract against fracture and cracking. As no core is required, the benefits of this increased strength can be experienced in thin layers, making Fortress™ ideal for veneers.
