Chairside Preparation
1. Overview
- With Procera AllZirkon, you follow your normal procedures. You prepare
as you would with a regular core of metal alloy.
- Use the diamonds and carbides you are using now for routine crown
preparations. NOTE: Nobel Biocare has a prep kit available featuring
different sized diamonds that might be helpful in achieving the optimum
prep.
- Procera AllZirkon can be fabricated on conservative 360º shoulder/heavy
chamfer margin preparations. Clear margins are a prerequisite for an
accurate restoration.
- Margins should be sharp, but all internal features, whether positive
or negative, should be rounded as with Procera AllCeram. Avoid sharp
angles and undercuts.
- Maintain an even reduction of anatomical form.
- These are minimum requirements. Strength will be increased with more
tooth reduction (Note: opacity will be less, translucency will be better).
2. Preparation Tips
General Guidelines
Recommended dimensions for preparations (Figures 1a and 1b).

The preparation is characterized by thinned margins and rounded inner
angles and edges.
(Figures 2a and 2b).

Bridge Framework Preparation
Shoulder/heavy chamfer design with a depth of 1.5 mm with rounded internal
line angles recommended for abutment teeth. Relatively flat occlusal
surfaces.
General guidelines for bridge preparation are identical to those for
crowns with the following additions:
- The prepared teeth must allow a bridge with an occlusal cervical
height of at least 3mm.
- The edentulous space between the unprepared teeth has to be less
than 11mm.
- Preparation should also be tapered away from the edentulous space
to enable the correct connector design.

Adjustment Tips:
- Avoid internal adjustment of Procera AllZirkon restorations. When
adjustments are necessary, adjust prepped tooth.
- Use a diamond with water for ceramic adjustments of veneer porcelain.
- Avoid localized overheating, which can result in micro-cracks.
- Avoid carbide use.
