Veneer
Preparation
- Anesthetize area if indicated.
- Take a preliminary impression.
- Record gingival, body and incisal shades. Note any stains or
characterizations. Submit final shade of prepared tooth as well
as desired final shade of restoration to laboratory.
- Preparation may be minimal or into dentin where necessary to
achieve correct contour.
- Overlap of incisal edge is recommended (ensure that the labial
incisal line angle is rounded and smooth).
- Lingual margin provides greatest strength as a butt shoulder.
- Labial gingival finishing line should be a chamfer placed supragingivally
when a shade change is not required and subgingivally when a shade
change is desired.

Crown
Preparation
- Reduce facial and lingual surfaces by 1 mm minimum (the greater
the reduction, the easier it is to mask the underlying color).
- Proximal surfaces should diverge 15-20º.
- Occlusal reduction should be a minimum of 1.5 mm over working
cusps and 1 mm over non-working cusps.
- Any areas of undercut should be blocked out at preparation using
a dentin adhesive and a direct hybrid composite.
