AE (Advanced Esthetic) Temps™ Preparation

Indications:

  • Cosmetic therapy, where esthetics are primary concern.
  • Where added strength needed in provisional.
  • Where temporization required for extended time.
  • When immediate extraction and ridge healing required.
  • Where periodontal treatment required in post-extraction cases.
  • Remaining dentition has unfavorable prognosis.

Contraindications:

  • Financial considerations (i.e., where lab cost can not be included in fee to patient).

Shade Selection

  • For basic shades, use the Vita Lumin or Vita 3D Master Shade Guides.

Laboratory Requirements

  1. Thoroughly detailed prescription denoting which teeth are to be crowned, extracted and/or bridged as well as selected shade.
  2. Clear and accurate upper and lower full arch impressions and study models.
  3. Bite registration.

Placement Procedure

A. Long-term Temporization After Removal of Existing Restorations

NOTE: AE Temps make an excellent option when tissue-management issues arise (e.g., inflamed tissues caused by contact with metal crowns or bridges). An AE Temp provides both excellent patient-pleasing esthetics and time for the tissues to recover prior to placing the final replacement restorations.

  1. Remove existing crown or bridge restorations.
  2. Take a clear and accurate impression of the existing preparations. Send this impression to the laboratory along with a detailed prescription denoting teeth to be crowned and/or bridged and selected shade. Include a bite registration.
  3. Cover the existing preparations with a short-term temporary material.
  4. Aurum Ceramic will fabricate beautiful AE Temps exact to the margin and return them to your office.
  5. Remove short-term temporary material and place AE Temps as per routine.

B. Standard Shell Temp Technique

  1. Technician will duplicate master model. Duplicate model will be adjusted by dental technician to agree with prescription (original cast serves as continuing reference for tooth contours, anatomy, texture and gingival architecture).
  2. Upon receipt of AE Temps from lab, prepare teeth with standard PFM or all-ceramic preparation guidelines depending on final restoration chosen. Preparation of crown forms should allow ample room for easy seating. Prior to tooth preparation, review extent of tooth reduction on duplicate cast to identify the incisal, lingual, facial, mesial and distal aspects along with the extent of gingival reduction. Final tooth preparation must be within those dimensions.
  3. Test fit provisionals onto finished tooth preparations. Evaluate and adjust for complete seating with acceptable occlusion. (Figure 1)
  4. Clean internal surfaces with aluminum oxide or lightly grind with ¼ round bur. (Figure 2)
  5. Reline AE Temps with PMMA acrylic or Integrity™ Temporary Crown and Bridge material. (Figure 3) Consult manufacturer’s instructions for proper reline technique.
  6. Reseat the temporaries and allow excess material to express. (Figure 4)
  7. Remove excess material. (Figure 5)
  8. Remove temporary and finish and polish margins. (Figure 6)
  9. Apply temporary cement and seat temporaries.
  10. Finish and polish.

Repair Technique:

  1. Roughen fracture surface with medium burs and clean thoroughly.
  2. Treat with Prime and Bond NT Universal Adhesive and light cure. NOTE: Avoid applying adhesive to tooth surfaces.
  3. Apply TPH® 3 MicroMatrix Restorative as repair material and light cure.
