"This 65-year old patient was unhappy with her smile, primarily due
to the bulky upper right bridge. At the same time, she also mentioned
that her partial lower denture was causing her some discomfort. Chewing
was arduous. Upon examination, her lack of comfort and difficulty in
chewing appeared to be due to overclosure. Previous sporadic restorative
treatments had created an unesthetic, poorly functioning dentition.
After discussing the situation with the patient, the decision was
reached to treat the entire dentition. This would involve opening the
vertical dimension and returning her to an anterior Class I while also
improving the esthetic appearance of her smile. Treatment started with
a splint to open the vertical. We then completed a full mouth reconstruction
including an Arizona Crown Bridge in the lower anterior to replace
the partial denture, IPS Empress®2 bridges to replace the upper
bicuspids, IPS Empress® veneers in the upper anterior and Targis99
on the upper sevens. The patient was ecstatic with the final result."
