"Titrable Oral Appliances for the Treatment of Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea"Dr. Alan Lowe graduated with a D.M.D. from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 1972 and commenced orthodontic training at the University of Toronto. After completing a Diploma in Orthodontics in 1975 and a Ph.D. in 1976, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at U.B.C. Dr. Lowe became an Associate Professor in 1979, Chairman of Orthodontics in 1980, a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1981, a full Professor in 1984 and served as Head of the Department of Clinical Dental Sciences from 1989 to 1996. Currently, he is Professor and Chair, Division of Orthodontics in the Department of Oral Health Sciences in the Faculty of Dentistry. He has maintained a private orthodontic specialty practice in Vancouver since 1976.

Dr. Lowe has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally in the areas of neurophysiology and orthodontics with particular emphasis on the control of tongue posture, the surgical and orthodontic management of open-bite malocclusions, the future role of undergraduate orthodontic training and the etiology and treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Current research projects under his direction include an analysis of the relative effectiveness of specific oral appliances used in the treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. His research activities have been funded by both provincial and federal governments and he has published 75 papers, 106 abstracts and 9 book chapters. In addition, he has successfully filed three U.S. patents. Dr. Lowe was awarded a grant by the Canadian government through the National Centres of Excellence (Inspiraplex) program to undertake a four-year multi-centre clinical trial to compare the effectiveness, side effects and compliance of a new oral appliance (Klearway™) and nasal continuous positive airway pressure in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Dr. Charkhandeh received his DDS and Bachelor of Medical Sciences from the University of Alberta, Canada and earned his Fellowship from Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. Dr. Charkhandeh maintains a group of private practices in Edmonton and Calgary with a focus on Dental Sleep Medicine, TMD and advanced occlusal reconstructive cases. He is actively involved in research to improve treatment outcome predictability for OAT (i.e. Oral Appliance Therapy) using the “MATRx” Technology. He is the “Chief Dental Officer” at Zephyr Sleep Technologies.

Dr. Sahag Mahseredjian obtained his doctor's degree in Dentistry from the University of Montreal in 1991. His interest in implant dentistry led him to pursue his formation in various prestigious institutes like the Branemark clinic in Sweden, UMDNJ and UCLA.

 

 

 

 

Dr Erin Elliott

Dr. Erin Elliott is a practicing general dentist with a private practice in Post Falls, Idaho. She focuses on many aspects of dentistry including general and cosmetic dentistry as well as orthodontics and dental sleep apnea. Dr. Elliott is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Elliott has authored several articles on Dental Sleep Medicine, including her latest article published in the October 2012 issue of Dental Economics entitled “Take the Time to Check for Sleep Apnea and “Pediatric Sleep Apnea” in the June 2013 issue of Dental Economics. She is considered a national expert in this growing field of dentistry and has lectured extensively educating dentists on how to incorporate dental sleep medicine into their practices.
